In today's Boston Globe Ralph Nader writes that the Democratic National Convention is about power and avoidance: "the power of big business and special interests and the avoidance of any issues that might draw a clear distinction between our two leading political parties." Nader lists twelve taboos you won't hear at the Democrat's convention:
Now we know why Nader never polls above 7%.1. No call for a national crackdown on the corporate crime and fraud.
2. No demand that workers receive a living wage instead of a minimum wage.
3. No call for a withdrawal from the WTO and NAFTA.
4. No suggestion that our income tax system be substantially revamped.
5. No call for a single payer health system.
6. No new initiatives in solar energy, efficiency in motor vehicles, and other sustainable and clean energy technologies.
7. No demand for a reduction in the military budget.
8. No call for electoral reform.
9. No call for reform of the criminal justice system.
10. No call for a solution to the Palestinian and Israeli conflict.
11. No call for the United States to begin a military and corporate withdrawal from Iraq.
12. No call to make it easier for consumers to band together and defend themselves against harmful practices in the marketplace.
