United Press International reports that the Iraqi government is ready for an offensive to expel Sadr's forces from Najaf:
We shouldn't get to excited over this report. Last wednesday, yep a week ago, Sadr's forces were warned the Iraqi forces would attack the Imam Ali Shrine in Najaf.Pro-government sources said an all-out attack by U.S.-backed Iraqi national guards could take place Tuesday night following failure of attempts to find a peaceful settlement of the standoff.
The sources said the government has given up on Sadr and abandoned attempts to convince him to evacuate the holy city with his gunmen.
Sadr's forces must be brought to heel. Sadr appears stronger, and the Iraqi government looks less credible, everyday the situation with Sadr's forces remains unresolved.
