Reuters reports that Osama bin Laden appeared on Al Jazeera television on Saturday accusing President Bush of deceiving the American people:
In an address just days ahead of the U.S. presidential election, bin Laden also said the U.S. administration resembled "corrupt" Arab governments.
A BBC report adds more details. According to the BBC al-Jazeera has broadcast a videotape in which Osama Bin Laden threatens new attacks on the US:
Bin Laden said he first thought of attacking the US after the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982.
He said the attacks on the US would have been less severe if President Bush had been more alert.
But he added that the security of the American people depended neither on Mr Bush nor on his challenger, John Kerry, but on US policy.
"The reasons to repeat what happened remain," he said.
Although there have been audio tapes, this is the first videotape of Bin Laden to have surfaced since the war in Afghanistan following the 11 September attacks.
I was originally going to post something like
If bin Laden and other evil doers think the U.S. will change policies because of their threats, they are sadly mistaken. They should read the a little history and see how the American people respond when attacked. I was thinking of WWII.
I then realized that the evil doers probably remember more recent history.
They remember Vietnam, where we lost the will to fight.
They remember Beirut in 1983, where we left after they killed 241 of our Marines in their barracks.
They remember the first World Trade Center bombing in February 1993, when we turned to lawyers instead of soldiers.
They remember Mogadishu in October 1993, where we left after they killed 18 American soldiers and wounded 73.
They remember the attack on the USS Cole in 2000, after which we did nothing.

When I hear Osama bin Laden, I also hear the President on March 13, 2002 say in response to a question about the status of bin Laden:
Well, the President may not be worried. But I am. My family lives in a potential target city. I think he should have spent time worrying and doing something effective about bin Laden.
And then there’s the comment about supplies. Why was it those Guard troops refused their orders?
