The Associated Press reports a new poll finds that in Connecticut's 2nd congressional district Republican Congressman Rob Simmons leads Democratic challenger, Jim Sullivan, 48% to 46%.
Simmons' 2 points lead is within the Research 2000 survey's margin of error of 4 percentage points.
Last week a University of Connecticut poll found Simmons, a two-term incumbent, had an 9 point lead 44% to 36%.
The 2nd District race is one targeted by both the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee.
The Associated Press reports that the Research 2000 poll found Simmons' support of the war in Iraq is hurting him. But, Manchester's Journal Inquirer reports the poll also showed that Simmons' support for the war in Iraq isn't a determining factor for most voters, with 46 percent saying it had no effect on their vote.
The Norwich Bulletin reports that Senator Edward Kennedy, D-Mass. and Senator Chris Dodd, D-Conn. attended a union rally in Groton Friday in support of Sullivan.
