The good news is that yesterday the Senate yesterday turned back a proposed amnesty for up to 1 million illegal alien agricultural workers and their families, the bad news is that a majority of the Senate supported measure.
According to the Washington Times, the Senate fell seven votes shy of the 60 required for the amendment, which would have offered the illegal aliens a three-step path to citizenship.
The defeated amnesty was part of Idaho Republican Larry Craig's "Ag-jobs" legislation:
Ag-jobs would have created a three-step path to citizenship for agricultural workers who were in the country illegally at the beginning of the year and had worked 100 days out of 12 months in the agriculture sector.
Under the proposal, the workers would earn temporary legal status, leading eventually to a green card denoting legal permanent residence, and then the chance to apply for citizenship.
"I don't call that amnesty; I call that hard-earned labor paid for to get the ability to stay and work," Mr. Craig said.
With all due respect to Senator Craig, establishing period where no action is taken against people committing a crime sounds like an amnesty to me.

the answer is simple..if you want them gone.... arrest the owners and give them a 10,000 fine per illeagal and 6 months in jail. the IRS knows where most of them are. they use a fake number and the IRS informs the boss and that is where it ends. in six months there would be very few here. If you want them here make their boss be their sponser and prove who they are in Mexico. send the wife and kids back to Mexico. let no illegal go to our schools or get welfare, change the law to english as the official language and if an illeagal has a child here...then it is illeagal as well.

I "like" this part:
"I don't call that amnesty; I call that hard-earned labor paid..."
Funny, before I retired my hard earned labor consisted of 200 plus days of work each year.
Call me stupid but... how would the government document who worked where and for how long? They are employed by people that know they are illegals and produce zero paperwork to protect themselves from the law.
Hmmm... I smell an opportunity. I think I will set up a fake "100 day work document" mill.
I'll be rich... second opportunity, set up a Soros like op to throw these idiots out of office!
