Rosa DeLauro, Connecticut's 3rd District representative, endorsed New Haven Mayor John DeStefano yesterday for the 2006 race for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination.
According to the Hartford Courant, DeLauro's endorsement was not surprising, given that she and DeStefano share New Haven as a political base.
Connecticut's Secretary of the State, Susan Bysiewicz withdrew from the race for the 2006 Democratic gubernatorial nomination last Friday.
Bysiewicz's withdrawal left DeStefano and Stamford Mayor Daniel P. Malloy as the only Democrats in the race, although some still think Attorney General Richard Blumenthal might still run.
Even though the gubernatorial election is still more than a year away, the two remaining declared Democratic candidates are hoping the party loyalists will start to coalesce behind their campaigns.
Associated Press reports that key Democrats are waiting to see whether any more Democrats will jump into the race, and whether Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell will run.
"There are a very large number of people who are waiting to see what the final landscape will be, who is the Republican candidate because Jodi hasn't said, what about (Attorney General) Dick Blumenthal, what about (Lieutenant Governor) Kevin Sullivan," said Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz.
Blumenthal said Monday that he still hasn't made a decision about running for governor.

Three Important Things You can Still Do for Katrina Evacuees
Political Justice for Hurricane Families
Shame on America. The horror of Katrina has revealed, not just to this nation but to the world, the growing fissures between the working poor and the ultra-rich, between African American and white citizens, between those who had the resources to get out of New Orleans and those who were left to drown.
You've given to relief. Now it's time to stand with those who were left behind to ensure that when the next Katrina hits, America does not fail the least among us. There are three ways to give.
