Trying to get his campaign back on track, New Haven's mayor and Democratic frontrunner John DeStefano secured the endorsements of five Democratic town leaders.
According to the Yale Daily News, the Democratic mayors of Ansonia, Derby, East Hartford and Westbrook, as well as the First Selectwoman of Bethany all endorse DeStefano Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination. DeStefano was previously been endorsed by U.S. Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro as well as 20 unions representing 50,000 workers, including the state's largest police union.
The endorsements were announce after the DeStefano suffered a couple of bad weeks. Two weeks ago DeStefano admitted he had made a mistake in promoting drivers licences for illegal aliens. Last week the Connecticut elections commission decided to investigate donations to DeStefano's gubernatorial campaign. The campaign failed to disclose employment information of 53 donors who contributed at least $1,000. Those donors contributed $142,700 to DeStefano. Fund-raising reports released last week show DeStefano's Democratic opponent Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy's campaign raised more money than DeStefano from July 1 to September 30.
