The new Quinnipiac University poll finds Democratic Senator Lieberman with a 12 point lead, 49 - 37 percent among likely voters over the Democratic nominee Lamont. Republican candidate Alan Schlesinger remains in the single digits at 8 percent.
Unable to get contributors to finance his anti-war campaign, the Greenwich multi-millionaire spent millions of his own money to finance the biggest negative TV advertising blitz in the history of Connecticut politics. Last week, Lamont ads ran every half hour on every network affiliate in the state every day from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m.
After all that Lamont only cut Senator Lieberman's lead by 5 percent, from the 52 - 35 percent lead Lieberman had in the October 20 Quinnipiac poll.
In the new survey, Lieberman leads Lamont 73 - 6 percent among likely Republican voters, with 19 percent for Schlesinger, and 51 - 36 - 6 percent among independent voters, while likely Democratic voters back Lamont 56 - 37 percent.
This one is over.
