Fred Thompson has been accused of being a stalking horse John McCain. Fred disproved that theory today in an appearance on Fox News' "America's Newsroom."
Fred took both McCain and Huckabee for their failure to support Constitutional principles that bound the Reagan coalition together:
When you look at the approach of Governor Huckabee and Senator McCain, they clearly are moving away from what I consider to be the sound Constitutional principles that the Reagan coalition was founded upon. … Those things are just as applicable as they ever were, and I’m proud to carry that banner when others seem to be moving away from them.Fred had even more to say about Huckabee:
And in the course of rejecting the allegation, Thompson also made some important points about Huckabee completely evading substantive discussion…I understand those [the “stalking horse” accusations] are the Huckabee talking points now. I had several policy differences that I had with him when we were standing there, man to man, face to face. He didn’t answer any of them.
Now, three days later he comes back with accusations like this, and that it’s all about process and doing somebody else’s work. The notion that I’ve been doing what I’ve been doing for the last several months, day and night, to be some kind of a stalking horse for somebody else is beyond ludicrous.

Fred's efforts in South Carolina seem to be working. According to Rasmussen Reports, "Over the past several days, the only real movement in South Carolina’s Republican Presidential Primary has been a four-point gain for Fred Thompson and a five-point decline for Mike Huckabee."
