Space Shuttle Endeavour blasted into space at 2:28 a.m. EDT. Endeavour is carrying a module of Japan's Kibo laboratory and a Canadian robotic system, the Special Purpose Dexterous Manipulator, or Dextre, to the International Space Station.
Dextre can pivot at the waist, and has seven joints per arm. Its hands, or grippers, have built-in socket wrenches, cameras and lights. The robot has an arm span of about 30 feet and stand 12 feet tall.
