McCain Will Benefit From Democratic Deserters

The nasty nomination fight between Hillary and Obama is benefiting Senator Jon McCain, the Republican presidential nominee to be.

Recent Gallup polling finds large numbers of Democratic deserters will vote for McCain if the Democrat they support does not win the Democratic nomination:

A sizable proportion of Democrats would vote for John McCain next November if he is matched against the candidate they do not support for the Democratic nomination.

Only 59% of Democratic voters who support Hillary would vote for Obama against McCain, while 28% would vote for McCain. In a McCain vs. Hillary match up
72% percent of those who support Obama would still vote for Hillary, while 19% would desert and vote for McCain.
