Tuesday’s Guardian carried this story about the results of a new survey that revealed public opinion in Britain is very pro-American. 62% believe that the U.S. is "generally speaking a force for good, not evil, in the world." Only 15% of British voters agree with the idea that America is the "evil empire" in the world.
The poll also revealed a surge in pro-war sentiment in the past two months. Opposition to the war has slumped by 12 points since September. Now only 41% oppose the war. At the same time those who believe the war was justified has increased to 47%.
Two-thirds of voters believe British and American troops should not pull out of Iraq now but instead stay until the situation is "more stable.”
This is a good thing.
