So Congressman Shays is on of those that thinks we should run and hide.
Rep. Christopher Shays (R-Conn.), my congressman, told the New York Post that he'd avoid the Times Square crowd because it's a "tempting target" for terrorists.
Not satisfied with that he also offered these gems:
I wouldn't go to Times Square. That is my opinion. It is one based on the reality that the government has declared a Code Orange.I wouldn't be flying from Europe to the U.S. in an airplane.
When I heard someone say, 'There is a Code Orange, there is a high alert, but keep doing everything you are doing,' then why do you bother to tell us?
New York officials had an appropriate responses for the congressman's fears.
A spokeswoman for Mayor Bloomberg, said "it's unfortunate that a U.S. congress- man has so little confidence in the world's greatest Police Department. We look forward to accepting his apology on Jan. 1."
According to Reuters, Mayor Bloomberg accused Shays of "lacking courage." Bloomberg equated showing up for the street party with defying terrorists.
My response will come next November.
UPDATE: Joe Kelly, at The Sake of Argument, appreciate the caution from Congressman Shays and doesn't appreciate the "arrogance" from the mayor’s office.
Bernie, at Matriculate, also agrees with the congressman.
I cannot believe that Shays goes on Fox News on Sunday and when ask what his committee is going to do about the food for oil program hearings he stated " we are going to ask how they were managing their program". Holy Mother, how stupid can you get, we know they were managing it pretty well, and getting rich.
Time for him to go even a democrat couldnt do worse.
