I don’t have much to say about Al Gore’s endorsement of Dean, except to note that Gore isn’t a class act.
Three years ago, Gore picked Lieberman to be his vice-presidential running mate. Lieberman proved his loyalty by waiting to enter the presidential race until after Gore announced he decided not to run.
Gore repays that kind of loyalty by not only endorsing Dean over his own running mate, but much, much worse, not even giving Lieberman a courtesy heads up.
The Washington Post quoted Lieberman as saying he was “caught completely off guard" by the Gore endorsement.
I heard about it from the media.Just one more reason why I’m glad Gore wasn’t allowed to steal Florida.I was surprised that Al Gore would endorse a candidate who stands for so many things that Al Gore has not stood for, and has stood against in his life.
So Al Gore will have to explain why he is supporting somebody who I think would take our party and country backward, not forward.
A lot of bloggers are saying that with Gore's endorsement Dean has the Democratic nomination locked up. These prognostications are premature. Not one delegate has been selected and the last polling numbers I remember seeing indicated that half of the Democratic primary voters couldn’t even name one of the Democratic candidates.
UPDATE: Things are improving for the Democrats. Thursday’s Philadelphia Inquirer reports that “one national poll now reports that 45 percent of likely Democratic primary voters still cannot name a single candidate.” That is better than my recollection of one half.
