Awila Rebeca Martinez, known as Rebeca, was born with two heads. Attached to the top of her head is an unformed conjoined twin, with skull, brain and face, but no body.
USA Today reports that doctors from the USA and the Dominican Republic will perform surgery on the 2-month-old baby girl to remove the undeveloped conjoined twin growing on the crown of her head.
This condition is rare. Only seven cases have been reported medical history. This is only the second child born alive with this malformation. The last one was born 200 years ago.
Yikes! I've periodically teased my seven month pregnant wife about the possibility that we'll give birth to a "two headed monster". . . . Who knew?!?
