The Associated Press reports that more than 20 musical acts including Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Jurassic 5, John Mellencamp, Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, Babyface, Bright Eyes, the Dave Matthews Band, and the Dixie Chicks will perform fund-raising concerts one month before the November election in an effort to unseat President Bush.
According to the Los AngelesTimes:
This effort is being promoted by MoveOn.org. The entertainers might have more credibility if they weren't associating themselves with that liberal looney left wing organization. This is just more evidence that the "cultural elite" is hostile to traditional values held by most Americans. The concert tour ranks among the most ambitious efforts ever by entertainers of any kind to influence the outcome of a presidential race. The effort, announced this morning, will send over 20 artists to perform more than 34 shows in nine battleground states during a single week in early October, hoping to not only raise money but attract publicity and sway voters.
Why can't artists take sides against Bush? As an artist myself, I take offense at all that he has tried to steal away from American civil liberties. As an ex-Texan, I'm ashamed to say I was born there. You bet I'll vote against him!
