It is already Election Day in Afghanistan. We all know how important this election is, both to the Aghan people and the war against terrorism. More than 12 million people registered to vote in Afghanistan's first parliamentary elections in thirty-five years. More than 5,800 candidates are running for parliament and provincial councils.
Officials urged Afghans to defy Taliban insurgents and powerful warlords by turning out in force for Sunday's landmark elections. The Taliban urged Afghans to boycott the elections.
The commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan said he expects a big turnout in Sunday's elections. I hope he is right, and pray the Afghans are allowed to vote safely.
