The Washington Times reports Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter has proposed dramatic increases in legal immigration.
Spector's draft immigration reform bill combines provisions from several competing bills, including requiring illegal aliens to return home before being let back into the United States on a path to citizenship, but the big surprise is the proposed huge increase in immigration.
According to the Washington Times, Spector's proposal could double the level of legal, permanent immigration from its current level of more than 900,000, increase the cap on family-preference immigrants by 254,000 a year, raise the cap on employment-based visas by 150,000 year, "recaptures" unused visas and exempts hundreds of thousands of family members from caps.
I guess the idea is if you let them in legally they won't be illegal aliens.
From the little I have seen so far, Spectors' guest worker/amnesty proposal is a sick joke on the American people. If the American people don't let their Senators know what they think about it (one way or the other), then they should keep their mouths shut if they don't like the end result.
