In an article about Senator Biden's first political trip to Iowa since September 1987, when he ended his 1988 bid for the White House after he was caught plagiarizing the oratory of a British politician, Neil Kinnock, the Des Moines Register reports the Delaware Democratic is definitely running for president in 2008:
Biden, 63, says flatly that he's running, unlike any of the half-dozen other Democrats who have begun building campaign organizations in Iowa.
In an interview with the Des Moines Register, Biden was asked about Iowa Democrats' - and the national party's - hesitation to back a candidate who has run before:
"That could be. I doubt very many people remember I ran," he said.
According to the Register, Biden said Democrats will demand a standard-bearer who can best address the connection between instability abroad and anxiety at home:
"They will make a judgment that no Democrat can get elected without having absolutely unimpeachable credentials on national security and foreign policy," he said, "even if they are right on every other issue."
Biden may be older and wiser, and even more determined. But I just don't see how he gets past the plagiarism and exaggerations of his academic record.
