A week after California Yankee posted that Chris Murphy, the Connecticut state senator challenging Nancy Johnson for her Congressional seat, is running away from the terrorist surveillance program, the issue still dominates that race.
According to the Hartford Courant, Murphy is still fighting the effects of Johnson's television commercial declaring that Murphy was willing to risk American lives by keeping the government from intercepting terrorist phone calls without a warrant:
Johnson's spokesman, Brian Schubert, said Murphy would undermine national security by requiring the Bush administration to follow existing law."National security is the most critical issue of our time. And fighting the war on terror is the most critical issue of our time," Schubert said. "And Mr. Murphy's position is irresponsible and dangerous."
Here's the Johnson ad:
Johnson is one of three House Republicans in Connecticut targeted by the national Democratic party in hopes of wresting control from the Republicans.
