Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice ruled out a direct U.S. role in Northern Pakistan, where bin Laden's al-Qaeda is resurgent.
Appearing before the Senate Appropriations Committee said Pakistan has a strong interest in not allowing extremism breed in the area:
"We believe that we have the commitment of the Pakistanis to fight these extremists because they threaten Pakistan as well," she said.
Rice and General Pace also ruled out the use of American forces in parts of Northern Pakistan with a view to wiping out or eliminating the leadership of the al Qaeda
I just don't get. The Director of National Intelligence McConnell tells the Senate Armed Services Committee that Osama bin Laden is in Pakistan reestablishing al-Qaeda training camps, and the Secretary of State and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs say we won't do anything about it. Couldn't they have at least left all the options on the table? You know, remind President Musharraf about his choices.
