60 DAYS AND COUNTING.
Colorado Senator Ken Salazar is breaking with Democratic leaders, saying in a letter to President Bush and key Senate Democrats, Congress should not cut funding for the war:
As one United States Senator, I do not believe that we can or should cut funding for our troops in Iraq or Afghanistan while we anticipate that our troops will be in harm’s way.
Despite the announcements by Majority Leader Harry Reid and Presidential wannabee Chris Dodd that they will co-sponsor Senator Feingold's bill to legislate defeat by cutting off war funds, everyone knows that isn't happening. This is especially true now that The Democratic leaders are losing support of Democratic Senators. If the Democrats ever get it together, stop gallivanting around the Middle East handing out diplomatic coups to terrorist supporters, and agree upon war funding language to send to President Bush, funding the war can move forward.
It has been 60 days since the President sent his request for the necessary funds to support our troops fighting the war. President Bush has made it crystal clear that as soon as the Democratic controlled run Congress gets around to sending him the bill the Democrats carefully crafted to ensure a veto, he will veto it. Perhaps then, before all of the serious damage to readiness laid out by Secretary Gates actually occurs.
When will the Democrats observe a cease fire in their war against President Bush and pass legislation providing the necessary war funding to support the troops engaged in a real war that the President can sign?
