The Iowa Republican Party anticipates Fred Thompson will be an official candidte by August 11, and included Fred's name, along with 10 declared Republican candidates, on the ballot for the August 11th AmesStraw Poll in Ames.
Chuck Laudner, the executive director of the Iowa Republican Party, says he anticipates that Thompson will be an "official" candidate by August 11th.At least 40,000 people are expected to attend the Straw Poll.
Fred's inclusion is bad news for Romney, whose effort to win the Ames straw poll, caused both the Giuliani and McCain campaigns to announce plans to skip the straw poll.
