Senators McCain and Obama shared the same stage and microphone again on Thursday, at the annual Al Smith dinner -- a fundraiser for Catholic charities.
McCain:
"All of their positions will now be held by a man named Joe the plumber."
"He doesn't mind at all. In fact he even has a pet name for me: George Bush."
"I can't shake the feeling that some people here are pulling for me. I'm delighted to see you here tonight Hillary."
Obama:
"Who is Barack Obama? I was not born in a manger."
"Barack is Swahili for 'that one.'"
"I got my middle name from somebody who didn't think I would ever run for president."

There's a long tradition of presidential candidates speaking at the Al Smith dinner. The only times presidential candidates did not speak at the dinner was 1996, when President Bill Clinton was not invited after he vetoed a late-term abortion ban, and 2004, when sponsors cited the divisive nature of the campaign and didn't invite the candidates.
