The McCain campaign is blanketing battleground states with automated phone calls that accuse Democrat Barack Obama of working closely with a domestic terrorist and holding extreme views on abortion:
“Hello. I’m calling for John McCain and the RNC because you need to know that Barack Obama has worked closely with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, whose organization bombed the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon, a judge’s home and killed Americans,” the recorded message said. “And Democrats will enact an extreme leftist agenda if they take control of Washington. Barack Obama and his Democratic allies lack the judgment to lead our country.”
On "Hardball," Congresswoman Bachmann explains why Obama's association matters:
Bill Ayres remains an unrepentant terrorist. This is not someone the president of the United States wants to be associated with.
If John McCain had associated with Ayers, there would be a nightly story, it would be everywhere.
Obama started his state senate campaign in Bill Ayers' home.
Obama worked closely with Ayers on radical leftist education matters.
Obama did not have a mild association with Ayers. Obama had a strong association with Ayers.
It's important because we look at the collection of Friends Obama has had over his life and usually we associate with people who have similar ideas to us. It calls into question what Obama's true beliefs and values are.
The Liberals Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers are over the top anti-American. That's not the way most Americans feel about our country.
Watch the following video. Representative Bachmann did a very good job of dealing with Chris Matthews' usual bullying tactics:
The calls are an annoyance and ought to be stopped.
Bill Ayres is not himself a significant national figure.
The accusations against Obama do not address the issues of the moment, but they do speak to the more lasting issue of Presidential character.
