A few weeks ago, I wrote about how defense spending on critical programs, such as the F-22A fighter aircraft, would provide a better stimulus to the economy than President Obama's $819 billion bailout boondoggle passed by the House, even though it was opposed by 11 Democrat and all Republican Representatives.
Obama could get a jump on his goal of saving or creating three to four million jobs. He can ensure America keeps 95,000 jobs by certifying that “the procurement of F-22A Raptor is in the national interest of the United States of America." Those jobs, 25,00 direct jobs and 75,000 indirect jobs would be spread out over 1,000 suppliers in 44 states.
A bipartisan group of 44 senators -- 25 Democrats and 19 Republicans -- and a bipartisan group of 194 Members of the House have written to Obama urging him to allow the Air Force to continue buying F-22 Raptor fighter jets.
Protecting the 95,000 jobs created by the Raptor, while protecting the nation isn't good enough for some. The Washington Independent's Spencer Ackerman, discounts those 95,000 jobs and belittles the call for much more practical stimulus with a flippant "So much for health care, green jobs, infrastructure, etc."
You can join the bipartisan Members of Congress and urge Obama to continue the F-22 program by visiting the PreserveRaptorJobs.com website. As Doug Lambert points out, The website, set up to petition President Obama, includes a letter to him that states:
In your inaugural address, you stated that if a government program works, we should move forward. The F-22 program fits this bill. It is on budget and ahead of schedule, and we are now reaping the tremendous benefits of our nation’s investment in design and development.
I prefer the more defensible stimulus to the President's bailout boondoggle. How about you?
