Rasmussen Reports latest survey of likely Republican primary voters, taken Monday night, finds Texas Governor Rick Perry with a double digit lead:
- Perry: 29%
- Romney: 18%
- Bachmann: 13%
- Ron Paul: 9%
- Cain: 6%
- Gingrich: 5%
- Santorum: 1%
- Huntsman: 1%
- McCotter: 0%
- Udecided: 16%
That didn't take long. Perry only announced his campaign at the RedState gathering on Saturday.
Sean Trende, Senior Elections Analyst for RealClearPolitics, writes that if Perry strikes hard early he can unify the Republicans and make short work of the GOP primary process. I don't think Trende meant this early and the Iowa Caucuses won't be held for nearly six months. A great deal can and will happen in six months.
Nevertheless, it is very interesting to see Perry have such a successful launch to his campaign.
