The good folks at the National Republican Senatorial Committee have put together a terrific video morphing Obama's infamous "lazy" and "soft" comments with Jimmy Carter's "Malaise" speech into "Malazy."
Watch the video:
The Malazy video is timely, coinciding with Obama’s job approval falling below that of Jimmy Carter.
Dwight Eisenhower: 78% George W. Bush: 55% Harry S. Truman: 54% Ronald Reagan: 54% George H.W. Bush: 52% Jimmy Carter: 51% Bill Clinton: 51% Richard M. Nixon: 50% Lyndon B. Johnson: 44% Barack Obama: 43%
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie blasts President Obama's failure to provide leadership to the supercommittee.
Calling Obama "a bystander in the Oval Office," Governor Christie said he was angry:
"I was angry this weekend, listening to the spin coming out of the administration, about the failure of the supercommittee, and that the president knew it was doomed for failure, so he didn’t get involved. Well then what the hell are we paying you for? It’s doomed for failure so I’m not getting involved? Well, what have you been doing, exactly?
[. . .]
In New Jersey, the reason [problems got solved] is because I called people into the room and said we’re going to solve this problem and I had people of good will on the other side who said they believed it was their obligation, regardless of party, to get done things like pension and benefit reform.
[. . .]
Why the president of the United States refuses to do this is astonishing to me.
[. . .]
He’s the one in Washington and he’s got to get something done here. And it’s not good enough just to say, 'Well, I’ll get it done after the election.'"
The New Hampshire Union Leader, New Hampshire's largest newspaper endorses Newt Gingrich for president:
America is at a crucial crossroads. It is not going to be enough to merely replace Barack Obama next year. We are in critical need of the innovative, forward-looking strategy and positive leadership that Gingrich has shown he is capable of providing.
He did so with the Contract with America. He did it in bringing in the first Republican House in 40 years and by forging balanced budgets and even a surplus despite the political challenge of dealing with a Democratic President. A lot of candidates say they're going to improve Washington. Newt Gingrich has actually done that, and in this race he offers the best shot of doing it again.
[. . .]
Truth be known, many in the liberal media are belittling the Republican candidates because they don't want any of them to be taken as a serious challenger to their man, Obama.
Readers of the Union Leader and Sunday News know that we don't back candidates based on popularity polls or big-shot backers. We look for conservatives of courage and conviction who are independent-minded, grounded in their core beliefs about this nation and its people, and best equipped for the job.
We don't have to agree with them on every issue. We would rather back someone with whom we may sometimes disagree than one who tells us what he thinks we want to hear.
Newt Gingrich is by no means the perfect candidate. But Republican primary voters too often make the mistake of preferring an unattainable ideal to the best candidate who is actually running. In this incredibly important election, that candidate is Newt Gingrich. He has the experience, the leadership qualities and the vision to lead this country in these trying times. He is worthy of your support on January 10.
The endorsement gives former House Speaker Gingrich additional momentum, or as the Gingrich Campaign calls it "Newt-mentum," after he has climbed to the top of national GOP polls.
A Suffolk University/7News poll released last Tuesday found Romney leading with 41% of likely GOP voters surveyed. Gingrich was tied with Ron Paul for second with 14%.
Another poll by the American Research Group last week showed Gingrich closing the gap in New Hampshire but still trailing Romney by 11% -- 33% t0 22%.
The University of New Hampshire WMUR Granite State Poll, also released last week found that among likely New Hampshire Republican Primary voters prefer Romney 42% with Gingrich in second place with 15%.
Gingrich surged 18% between American Research Groups September and November polls, but David Paleologos, director of Suffolk University’s Political Research Center, says a Romney loss in New Hampshire is unlikely:
"Every Republican candidate that surges in the national polls hits a firewall in New Hampshire. We’ve seen this with surges from Bachmann, Perry, Cain and now Gingrich. A Romney loss here is highly improbable, and Romney’s best insurance policy in New Hampshire is Ron Paul, whose fixed support takes 14 percent off the table."
Mitt Romney's failure to win the Union Leader editorial board's endorsement is a setback for the former Massachusetts Governor, who continues to struggle with Conservative Republican voters.
In an interview on CNN, Union Leader editor page editor Andrew Cline said the paper picked Gingrich because he had the political experience to enact much of his platform:
"Romney's a guy who wants to be liked," Cline said. "He's a politician who wants to be liked. Gingrich is a politician who wants to be respected, who wants to actually accomplish - he has an agenda that he wants to set in place.
I'm really not sure precisely what we get out of a President Romney who might very well be a good president, but we don't really know," Cline added. "So given the choice between the candidate who wants to be liked and the candidate who wants to be respected, we would rather have the guy who wants to be respected."
I don't put much stock in newspaper endorsements, but with six weeks left before New Hampshire voters cast their ballots, the Union Leader's endorsement may give Gingrich an edge as Republicans ask which candidate is best positioned to defeat President Barack Obama.
The Perry campaign's Thanksgiving video, "Securing the American Dream (Marcus' Story)," features former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, who describes his harrowing escape from the heavy fire of Taliban and Al-Qaeda forces in Afghanistan in 2005. The video gives thanks for the veterans and active duty military men and women who have served heroically in Iraq, Afghanistan and other conflicts.
Luttrell also discusses his view of Rick Perry. "He's one of the most honorable men I've ever met. As far as character and honor and commitment and all those words that most people use as a punch line, he lives that stuff. It's those characteristics in a man, and especially in him, that I think embody what the president of the United States should be."
Watch the video:
"Securing the American Dream (Marcus' Story)" Script:
Marcus Luttrell: "My name is Marcus Luttrell. I grew up in East Texas, fifth generation. I joined the military in March of '98.
Through my time in the military, I've fought on two battlefronts. I've been in Afghanistan and Iraq multiple times.
Back in 2005 in Afghanistan I was part of a four-man special reconnaissance team. We were sent in to capture or kill a high-ranking individual in Bin Laden's army.
I guess a day and a half into the operation we got overrun by some Taliban Al-Qaeda militia. A firefight ensued. At the end of the day, I lost three of my teammates.
And then we actually had a rescue helicopter come in to try to get us out of there, and it was shot down by an RPG, killing 16 more of my teammates.
It was a substantial loss for the SEAL teams, and for the military as a whole actually. Nineteen Special Forces operators lost their life that day.
God granted me life on that day and got me out of there. I can't tell you why or how I was lucky enough to get out of there."
Text: In 2007, Marcus was awarded the Navy Cross for his actions in 2005 facing Taliban fighters during his mission.
"My support for Governor Rick Perry for president goes back a long way.
I call him for fatherly advice and just day-to-day life questions. He is one of the most honorable men I have ever met.
I don't get into politics. I'm a soldier. With that being said though, as far as character and honor and commitment, and all those words that most people use for a punchline, he lives that stuff.
It's those characteristics in a man that, and especially in him, that I think embody what the President of the United States should be."
Voice: "Welcome a true American patriot, the Honorable Governor Rick Perry."
Text: Our mission is clear
Gov. Perry: "We have the best fighting force in the world.
We have a generation of heroes that love this nation, who are willing to sacrifice all ..."
Text: Our message is simple
"... so that many may be free.
The men and women of the United States military are the greatest ambassadors of freedom this world has ever seen. And I pray that God continues to bless you ..."
Text: To secure the future of the American Dream
".. and through you, He continues to bless this great country that we love."
Text: As Americans we have a lot to be thankful for, especially for our brave military men and women
"God bless you, and God bless the United States of America."
Marcus Luttrell: "I'm a pretty good judge of character, and I love him to death. I think he's a great man. I think he'd be a great president."
Text: Happy Thanksgiving
Perry is a veteran of the United States Air Force, having flown C-130 tactical airlift from 1972 to 1977. Rick Perry and Ron Paul are the only vetrans running for president.
The good folks at Jimmy Kimmel Live took a scene from the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special and replaced the audio with dialogue from one of the Republican debates.
When Obama took office the national debt was $10,626,877,048,913.08 or $10.6 Trillion -- a $4.4 trillion (41.5%) increase during the Obama Presidency.
On July 3, 2008, Presidential candidate Obama said that adding $4 trillion in debt was "irresponsible" and "unpatriotic." Watch the video.
It should be noted that Obama of course got his facts wrong when he falsely claimed President Bush increased the national debt by $4 trillion "by his lonesome." When Speaker Pelosi took over Congress on January 3, 2007, the national debt was $8.7 trillion. So the Democrats must get some of the credit for one of the four trillion candidate Obama tried to blame on Bush.
President Obama promised to cut the deficit in half by the end of his term:
“And that's why today I'm pledging to cut the deficit we inherited by half by the end of my first term in office.” (President Barack Obama, Remarks at the Fiscal Responsibility Summit, Washington, D.C., 2/23/09)
Obama Broke His Promise To Cut The Deficit In Half:
“President Barack Obama Plans To Cut The U.S. Budget Deficit To $533 Billion By The End Of His First Term …” “President Barack Obama plans to cut the U.S. budget deficit to $533 billion by the end of his first term by increasing taxes on the wealthy and cutting spending for the war in Iraq, according to an administration official. Obama wants to reduce the deficit because he’s concerned that over time, federal borrowing will make it harder for the U.S. economy to grow and create jobs, said the official, speaking on the condition of anonymity.”(Hans Nichols, “Obama Plans To Reduce Budget Deficit To $533 Billion By 2013,” Bloomberg, 2/21/09)
Even If Every Part Of Obama’s Deficit Reduction Proposal Was Enacted, The Deficit At The End Of His First Term Would Still Be $1.33 Trillion, Over Double What He Promised. (“The President’s Plan For Economic Growth And Deficit Reduction; Table S-3,” Office of Management and Budget, 9/19/11)
Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner Said Even If Congress Enacted The President’s Budget “We Would Still Be Left With A Very Large Interest Burden And Unsustainable Obligations Over Time.” GEITHNER: ““You’re absolutely right that with the president’s plan, even if Congress were to enact it, and even if Congress were to hold to it and reduce those deficits to three percent of GDP over the next five years, we would still be left with a very large interest burden and unsustainable obligations over time.” (Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, Remarks Before Senate Budget Committee, Washington, D.C., 2/17/11)
Obama Racked Up Three Record Deficits:
Even though tax revenues were up 21% in fiscal year 2011 over fiscal year 2010, Obama's ever increasing spending resulted in the third highest deficit in the last 65 years:
FY2011’s Budget Deficit Was The Third Highest In The Last 65 Years, Behind Obama’s Previous Two Record Deficits. “At 8.5 percent of gross domestic product (GDP), the $1.3 trillion budget deficit that the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projects for 2011 will be the third-largest shortfall in the past 65 years (exceeded only by the deficits of the preceding two years).” (“The Budget And Economic Outlook: An Update,” Congressional Budget Office, 8/24/11
FY2009: The Federal Budget Deficit Was $1.416 Trillion, The Highest In U.S. History. (“Monthly Budget Review: Fiscal Year 2010,” Congressional Budget Office, 10/7/10)
FY2011: The Federal Budget Deficit Was $1.299 Trillion, The Second Highest In U.S. History. (“Monthly Budget Review: Fiscal Year 2011,” Congressional Budget Office, 10/7/11)
FY2010: The Federal Budget Deficit Was $1.291 Trillion, The Third Highest In U.S. History. (“Monthly Budget Review: Fiscal Year 2010,” Congressional Budget Office, 10/7/10
How much is $15 trillion?:
$15 Trillion Is More Than The Value Of All The Goods And Services Produced In The United States Last Year. (“Gross Domestic Product,” Bureau Of Economic Analysis, BEA.gov, Accessed 11/3/11)
15 Trillion One-Dollar Bills Would Wrap Around The Earth’s Equator Over 58,000 Times. (“Earth: Facts & Figures,” NASA, Accessed 11/3/11)
In FY2010, The Bureau Of Engraving And Printing Produced $974 Million Worth Of Currency. At That Rate, It Would Take 15,400 Years To Print $15 Trillion. (“Annual Production Figures,” Bureau of Engraving And Printing, Accessed 11/3/11)
It Would Take The Average Household Over 300 Million Years To Pay Off The National Debt On Their Own.(Press Release, “Income, Poverty and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2010,” US Census Bureau, 9/13/11)
To Pay Off $15 Trillion In Debt, The Federal Government Would Have To Devote Every Dollar Of Revenue To Paying Off The Debt For 6.5 Years. (“Monthly Budget Review,” Congressional Budget Office, 10/7/11)
Can we afford another five years of the tax too much, borrow too much and spend too much Obama regime?
Texas Gov. Rick Perry, calls for criminalizing insider trading by members of congress:
"Any congressman or senator that uses their insider knowledge to profit in the stock market ought to be sent to jail, period."
Watch the video:
"Congress certainly can’t be trusted to watch our money, and now it’s clear they can’t be trusted with theirs. Any congressman or senator that uses their insider knowledge to profit in the stock market ought to be sent to jail. Period. And Congress ought to pass a law that says so right now. No ifs, ands, or buts. I’m Rick Perry and I approve this message."
This is part of Governor Perry's "Uproot and Overhaul Washington" government reform plan, which according to Mike Allen, has a section for each branch of the federal government:
"Fundamental Reform of the Legislative Branch: Citizen Congress, Accountability and Transparency … Work to establish a part-time, Citizen Congress … Cut congressional pay in half and repeal the rules that prevent members of Congress from holding real jobs in their home states and communities."
"Fundamental Reform of the Judiciary: End Life-time Appointments to the Supreme Court … End lifetime appointments of federal judges by instituting an 18-year term limit. This would have to apply prospectively (e.g. not to current Supreme Court judges) and require a Constitutional Amendment."
"Fundamental Reform of the Executive Branch: Regulatory Reform and Reining in the Federal Bureaucracy … Support legislation to automatically sunset federal regulations unless Congress votes to renew them. … Work with Congress to dismantle, reform, and restructure wasteful, overbearing, and redundant federal agencies: The Department of Commerce, Department of Education and the Department of Energy would be completely eliminated."
Perry wants an overhaul of the Federal government of Biblical proportions:
"I do not believe Washington needs a new coat of paint. It needs a complete overhaul. We need to uproot, tear down and rebuild Washington, D.C. and our federal institutions. Ecclesiastes, Chapter 3, says, 'there is a time to plant and a time to uproot … there is a time to tear down and a time to build.' It is time to tear down the monuments to bureaucratic failure and in their place build a smaller, more efficient federal government that puts the American people first."
The week ahead for Right Side Politics includes the following the following events:
November 17 - Release of the Tea Party Debt Commission report detailing a grassroots-generated budget plan that will cut $9 trillion in spending and balance the budget in ten years without tax hikes.
November 17-18 - Women Working for Change Conference at the National Harbor, MD. Participants include Callista Gingrich, Anita Perry, and Mary Kaye Huntsman.
November 19 4:00-6:00 p.m. - The Thanksgiving Family Forum for Republican Presidential Candidates Des Moines.
Nearly 200 Conservative bloggers were in the middle of a training session on data visualization when Occupy Denver launched their "surprise" effort to occupy the conference. The protest was a major fail in no small part because the Occupiers announced the "surprise" occupation attempt on Twitter.
When the Occupiers showed up they were met at the conference room door by dozens of cameras wielded by experienced bloggers.
The attempted failed occupation attempted after a brief and very one sided debate. The Occupiers were outnumbered, outclassed and totally incapable of articulating what was the point of their so-called protest. After about five minutes of chaos the Occupiers retreated from the conference facility with only one of their sorry group being arrested.
The good folks at Crossroads Grassroots Policy Strategies released a new TV ad in Massachusetts taking on Democrat Senator wannabee Elizabeth Warren for her support of the “Occupy Wall Street” movement.
You may remember that a couple of weeks ago Warren not only embraced the Occupier Party, but in Al Gore-like fashion, claimed credit for creating the "intellectual foundation" for the movement:
"I created much of the intellectual foundation for what they do. I support what they do."
Watch the ad, appropriately called "Foundation."
Hopefully the Foundation ad will help inform Massachusetts voters about the the radical views of Elizabeth Warren.
