A Dinner with Blanco was the last item up for bid at the fundraising auction. The bidding opened at $1,000 and dropped to $500 before the auctioneer accepted the winning $1 bid.

Christmas Trees Removed From Airport

Seattle's Sea-Tac Airport has celebrated the holidays with Christmas trees over its entrances for more than 25 years. Not anymore.

After recieving "at least one complaint" about the Christmas tress and being threatened with a lawsuit,
the Port of Seattle ordered all 15 trees removed.

According to Fox News, a Seattle rabbi complained they were offensive:

The Port of Seattle says it had little choice. It says the Seattle rabbi with the Central Organization for Jewish Learning hired a lawyer and threatened to sue if the airport did not erect an eight-foot menorah to balance the message of the Christmas trees.

It saddens me that the Port of Seattle would succomb to such litigation blackmail. Under the law a Christmas tree is not condidered a relgious symbol and therefore, there was nothing wrong with the airport's display of Christmas tree.

This more of the war against Christmas, not a violation of the constitution.

Pig Races Threatened In Mosque Dispute

In the Houston suburb of Katy, plans to build a mosque have run into opposition. Opponents warn the place will become a terrorist hotbed. A neighbor even threatens to hold pig races on Fridays just to offend the Muslims.

Air Force To Pay For Strafing New Jersey School

The Air Force will pay $519,070 to the Little Egg Harbor Intermediate School, which was strafed by a National Guard F-16 fighter jet during a Nov. 3, 2004 nighttime training mission over the New Jersey Pinelands:

Eight of the 2-inch lead rounds punched through the school's roof, knocking down ceiling tiles.

At least one round struck a child's desk, and others scuffed the asphalt in the parking lot.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the mishap. The military blamed the pilot for the accident, but also said poorly designed controls in the F-16 played a role.

I don't understand how there could possibly be $500,000 in damage to the school.

Driving While Canine

The Associated Press reports a woman in China gave her dog a driving lesson. As you might expect, the dog-driven vehicle collided with another car.

The woman said her dog "was fond of crouching on the steering wheel and often watched her drive:"

"She thought she would let the dog 'have a try' while she operated the accelerator and brake," the report said. "They did not make it far before crashing into an oncoming car."

No injuries were reported, although the vehicles involved were slightly damaged, it said.

Like the tag line says, you can't make this stuff up.
